Today we came with Turid II to Kask\u00f6 after a long journey from Holmsund. But I have actually been to Kask\u00f6 before...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My adventurous parents, who were secondary school teachers, had for several years been looking for positions at Swedish schools abroad, primarily for SIDA. Among other things had jobs in Ethiopia been underway. But in 1972 we still lived in Bredbyn in \u00d6rnsk\u00f6ldsvik municipality. We spent the long summer holidays on Turid, the Norwegian Lofoten fishing boat that took us around the coasts of Sweden and Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 1972, 50 years ago, we were going to go with Turid around the Bothnian Sea. We started at midsummer and via father's childhood island Norrbysk\u00e4r we came to Vaasa. We then continued south to Kask\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So this is where it began, our Zambia adventure. Mum and dad got teaching jobs in Zambia as early as September and it was just a matter of hurrying home and packing. Via Turku and \u00c5land, we went back with Turid as quickly as possible. On the first of September we were on site in the Kafue Gorge in Zambia and life entered a new phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This meant that the summer of 1972 was the last summer of long-distance travel with Turid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
