French branch of Q-L804 - traces of Normans?

Published

The Scandinavian haplogroup Q-L804 now has a branch from Norway to the region of Normandy. The branching from the Norwegian "cousins" makes it possible to believe that the French kit has an origin in Norwegian Normans.

The Norwegian results have their oldest known ancestry in Møre og Romsdal and Nord-Trøndelag in the 18th-19th century and the French have their oldest known ancestry in Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, in the 17th century (Trotry de la Touche).

According to Yfull's estimate so far (where the French result is not yet included), they have a common ancestor that goes back c:a 1600 years, which means that the branching should have taken place during the centuries after the fourth century. The Normans occupied the current landscape of Normandy at the beginning of the 9th century.

Here is the latest overview of the Q-L804.
