Finn-Pål (1714 – 1776) was the son of Daniel Pålsson who lived in the Lögdeälven valley at the beginning of the 18th century [1]. In his widow's death notice in 1754, it is recorded that he was a refugee [2]. It has been assumed that Daniel Pålsson came from Ostrobothnia after the Battle of Storkyro on February 19, 1714, but in fact he married in Arnäs on December 27, 1713, thus before the Battle of Storkyro [3]. Pål Danielsson "Finn-Pål" was born 1714-11-28 in Nordsjö in the current Arnäs parish.
Finn-Pål had many children and he broke new buildings with great energy for each one of them. For some time there was almost every year a new construction in what are now the municipalities of Nordmaling and BJurholm and the adjacent lapland. Those who have roots in these areas often have Finn-Pål in their ancestry.
I have tested a descendant of Finn-Pål's son Daniel (A) and established that he belongs to Y-haplogroup N-M231 with the following STR markers (Y-DNA37, FamilyTreeDNA, 2021-09-13):
His match list is long, currently 265 Y37 matches. Judging by matches with in-depth tests, he should belong to the approximately 1600-year-old branch N-Z5893.
In the tested descendant's match list (Y37) there is another Finn-Pål descendant (B) with genetic distance (gd) 1. He also descends from son Daniel as follows:
As two descendants from separate branches from Finn-Pål's son have been tested with a good match, it is reasonable to believe that this is indeed also Finn-Pål's and his father's Y-DNA.
Haplogroup N-Z5893 is typically Finnish; in Yfull's version of the branch there are currently 124 tested with Finnish origin, 6 with Swedish, 1 Estonian and 1 Russian origin.
