Guest port tips - Finland and Estonia 2022

Published

A little tip for those we end up visiting on our trip to Finland and Estonia. Click and zoom in the map to see details.

1 Kaskinen / Kaskö
We lay with the long side facing the quay – no problem as we were almost alone.

The service house is locked, but you can borrow a key from the kiosk.

A sauna is available for rent, as well as a laundry room.

2, 19 Reposaari / Räfsö.
We were at the quay at the far end of the outer harbour. Close to the service house and water on the quay. If you don't need water or electricity, you can sleep at a lower price at the outermost jetty, which is also a guest jetty. If you intend to stay several nights, you should pay everything at once, it will be cheaper.

Restaurant with simpler dishes is available in the port.

Grocery store is up in the community a few hundred meters away. A fish restaurant and fish shop can be found in the fishing port at the far end of the headland towards the inlet.
There are nice walking areas around Räfsö, which also has a campsite on the side facing the sea.

3 Laitakari.
We first berthed at the first jetty which, according to the harbor book, should be the guest jetty. It didn't fit, we had to move to the innermost one. The restaurant was nice, but it was difficult to find the service house, which was a bit to the right.

4, 18 Raumo.
We were at the campsite Poroholma's guest dock, at the outermost sites. Electricity and water are not available at the jetty, but the campsite is very nice. Several restaurants, saunas, barbecue facilities, washing and washing facilities and swimming beaches are available in the area. There is a grocery store if you follow the road out of Camlingen straight ahead for 1.2 km (Syväraumankatu).

5 Uusikaupunki / Nystad.
The guest harbor is centrally located and was nice. The women's sauna with shower was upstairs, a bit inconvenient. More cozy cafes and restaurants nearby. On the other side of the river there is a nice training loop.

6 Velkuanmaa.
Dock with barbecue area, outdoor terrace and sauna. The pier is managed by the hotel, which is located a few hundred meters up the hill. The hotel's restaurant is nice and has received good reviews, the perch soup is recommended.

7 Paraistenportti.
Gästhamn just below the restaurant where the quiz was going on when we arrived. Popular place. The showers very spartan, without parking facilities. Nice sauna that can be rented.

8 Salo Vuohensaari.
Nice campsite with boat berths. Newly built (2022) service house with fresh kitchen, laundry room, toilets and showers. The campsite also has a restaurant that serves breakfast and a mini golf course.

We were the only larger guest boat during the three nights we were there. A couple of kilometers into the center of Salos.

9 Matilda / Mathildedal.
Old iron mill with cultural area. Large guest harbor with cafe and restaurant. Hotel with the option of breakfast.

10, 12 Hanko.
On the way down we were at the central pier on the mainland side. We were probably lucky to get a seat there just as the regatta was about to end. When we returned a week later, we instead docked in the large guest harbor at Smultrongrund. It is a little more expensive but very nice. Fresh sauna, restaurant etc. A small free ferry runs in shuttle service to the mainland side, at night you can call and ask for transport.

11 Haapsalu (Haapsal).
Nice guest harbor a few kilometers from the center. Pilots on the quay indicated the location, which was nice. Showers on the upper floor of the restaurant building and in an extra barrack. Bicycles are available for rent.

Hapsal is recommended - very nice town with many nice old houses, restaurants and cafes. The Rannarootsi Museum (Museum of the Estonian Swedes) which is located near the guest harbor is interesting and The Ilon Wikland Museum is fun for both children and adults. The castle is not to be missed!

13 Birsskär.
A jetty with barbecue area in a cozy lagoon. Rowing boats are available to borrow to row over to Stenskär, a couple of hundred meters away. There you can buy e.g. smoked perch as well as potatoes and vegetables grown on the island. There is also a sauna to rent.

14 Sottunga
We were nicely situated at the very end of the quay at the Salteriet, where local delicacies can be bought. Bicycles are available to borrow for a tour around the island, Åland's smallest municipality. Mini golf and disc golf in the harbour.

15 Mariehamn, the eastern harbour.
The large guest port, which is located right in the center, is very crowded. We were waved to the far left but once we were there we realized that with our difficult to maneuver Monsun we would neither get between the posts to any place nor be able to turn easily, especially with the wind. Finally we got around and were able to find a place further out.

16 Lappo.
Nice environment. Walking loop to i.a. vårdkasberget with a view. Strong swell from the ferries that come very close at certain times of the day.

17 Isokari / Enskär.

We were at the first pier, the outer part of which offers no protection from the sea from the north. We had to move further in. Unfortunately we missed the lighthouse display, tickets must be purchased at the kiosk in advance. The kiosk as well as the toilet are located a couple of hundred meters from the port.

A restaurant where you should book a table is near the lighthouse.

20 Kristiinankaupunki / Kristinestad.
We chose the guest harbor on the east side of the strait. It was a miss. Hotel Kristina manages the port, charges well but provides poor service. The hotel is locked at night so there is no access to toilet or shower from late evening until morning. It would have been easier to be on the west side with proximity to the center.

21 Vaasa / Vasa.
The Vasa sailing association's guest harbor was nice. Nice club cabin with kitchen and shower and possibility to rent a sauna. Restaurant "Seglis" is on the premises. Nice walking path to the center.
