Finally sailing!

Jakob:

We did the first trips with Turid II for motor. The weather was not so good and Eva had never set sail before.

Many details when setting sail can get stuck the first time and when we also have no shared experience of how it is done, it simply hasn't been time to try it before. The risks have been too great.

But this weekend was promised sun and light winds, now it could happen!

We hoisted the sails without any problems in the calm water directly outside the home port of Pathholmsviken's pier. The furling jib is out of order, but we put a regular cross jib in the foremast rail. It went well, even if it was quite heavy to lift - the friction in the rail is great.

After that, we glided along at 2-3 knots for a few hours north towards Rovögern, where we intended to spend the night. So no great speed and it wouldn't have hurt to have a bigger jib.

Toward the end, it completely swelled and we motored the last half hour into the harbor.

Rovögern's harbor was special. In a row are 18 identical small privately owned sheds with a jetty below. Camping life was lived in the sheds and this particular Saturday evening was the "stugsista", i.e. end of summer. Quite lively then.

We had our own cabin sister in the boat. The evening sun was warm, we ate fish bought in the fish shed behind the restaurant and finished with a Kon-Tiki cocktail.

I also took the opportunity to fit the new Hallberg Rassy decals I had just had made, the old ones were very worn.

The journey home was just as nice as the journey out. Sailing from port to port. Eva took down the sails on the raft outside Pathholmsviken.

Thus our first sailing season with Turid II is over. Now all that remains is demasting and taking up.
