Jakob:
On Wednesday morning it was time to go home. We had actually intended to take some time over to Sweden and instead looked more closely at a couple of areas in the Vasa archipelago, but rain and wind were promised so we wanted to hurry over as quickly as possible.
We woke up early and got the boat ready for sea and at 8 o'clock the previous owners came down to the dock in Oxkangar to wave us off.
Thank you Greta and Stig and others for the nice days we had in Oxkangar. We will remember them!
The first hours out to Mickelsörarna were quiet. We steered ahead over mirror-bright fjords and enjoyed the sun. We would have liked to take a closer look at the Mickelsørs, but worse weather was promised, so it felt safest to try to go home to Sweden as quickly as possible.
At lunchtime it started to blow from the northeast and it would probably have been fine sailing conditions, but since the boat was new to us and we primarily wanted to get the boat over to Sweden as quickly as possible, we continued with the engine.
It was a long journey and it felt important to keep track of the consumption of diesel. With a few hours left and Holmögadd on starboard, we fell off and slowed down to make the boat move more slowly. It was time for a short refueling break. Eva steered and I tried to poke the filling hole correctly with the spare canister.
But with 15 liters filled in the tank, we felt confident that the fuel would last all the way.
Eventually we arrived at Pathholmsviken in Holmsund, which will become our home port. Sister Gudrun and her Louise stood on the quay and met us, for which we were very grateful. We took it carefully with the maneuvering in the harbor because we haven't really learned the ins and outs of the throttle. It was lucky because the engine stopped and I couldn't get it started again just at the critical moment, but we glided quietly without problem the last meters to the jetty.
Journey 1, 2021-07-28:
Departure Oxkangar: 08.19 Finnish time (05.19 UTC)
Arrival Holmsund, Pathholmsviken; 18.20 Swedish time (16.20 UTC)
Distance: 65.3 nm
Average speed: 5.9 knots
Engine time: 11.1 h
So glad the crossing went well. Interesting to follow your journey https://www.marinetraffic.com/.
WELCOME home all three 😎
Thanks! Now she lies so nicely in her home port 🙂
It also feels good for us that the journey home went well. It was sad to see the former Bounty disappear behind the islet, but somehow it still felt so right. We hope you will have a lot of joy and fun together, even if it also means some work. An extra plus is that we can follow along on the blog, so she doesn't disappear completely. Navigare necesse est. Thank you for giving us such a great start (instructions, equipment, and that little extra). It felt nice! It was a pleasure to buy a boat from you! We are convinced that we will have a lot of fun with Turid II. Even if it means a lot of work, it is also a pleasure at the same time (but maybe not exactly every day 😉 ). Right now we are busy planning what needs to be completed such as supports for winter storage, new lifeboat, new wood in the cockpit, etc. We hope and believe that we will meet again in the future, all four of us. / Eve and Jacob
