First stop of the year – Norrbyskär

Jakob:

After many hours of preparation, it was finally time to leave the home port in Holmsund. Eva had gone to Stockholm so I had to complete the leg on my own - no major problems. It was a bit cold and rainy this morning, but by the time I left at 12 noon it had started to lighten up and get warmer.

But first the final preparations had to be made, I changed two batteries early this morning.

The old sawmill community Norrbyskär is a special place for me because my father was born here and the place has an exciting history. The sawmill was shut down in the early 1950s and most things have remained the same throughout my life, only more and more overgrown. But now Umeå municipality has started environmental cleanup of the land. The entire lumber yard area is excavated and leveled.
