Högbonden (High farmer) island

Outside Bönhamn is Högbonden, the high island with the lighthouse, which is one of the highest in Sweden. It is not possible to dock at the island by sailing boat, but from Bönhamn there is a tour boat that makes the short distance four times a day - the journey takes 10 minutes.

Google Maps - Högbonden.

We made that trip this morning. From the disembarkation point, it is a steep hill, mostly stairs, to the lighthouse, which is about 70 meters higher. The lighthouse keeper's residence is now a hostel and there is also a cafe in a leafy little pocket on the windy island.

A small exhibition can be found on the ground floor of the residence. There, a report is presented in Örnsköldsvik's Allehanda in 1963 about the last lighthouse keeper. Mum and dad, Berit and Staffan, made the report.
