This is how boats like the Turid were built

Published

Our old Turid was one sharp built by Kåre Hansen Sund at Hemnesberget in Nordland, Norway, 1935.

In the same yard, the son Kåre Helge Sund built a boat in the winter of 1981 – 1982 with a hull with dimensions like Turid's but with a slightly more modern superstructure. The boat was to be called Torgrim and the construction was documented in pictures by Per Arne Grønnevik. Per Arne has given me permission to publish the pictures.

The pictures show in great detail how the old boat building craft was done. From the frame curves drawn on the floor to the interior and superstructure of the finished boat. At the end, there are Kåre Helge's notes on materials and dimensions, drawn up during a coffee break. A good help for me when I planned the construction of my model of Turid.

Kåre Helge passed away in the summer of 2023. I really wanted to meet him and see the work in reality.
