Turid II – the name labels are mounted

Jakob:

Now it can be seen that the boat is ours - the name Turid II is in place. Partly on the front edge of the hull superstructure, partly on the cockpit skirt under the windscreen.

Because I wanted the right size and shape, I first made a PDF original in Adobe Illustrator which I sent to a printer who produced the vinyl decals. This is what the original looked like; just as well to put some extra text on the same sheet while you're at it.

It can be a bit tricky to mount vinyl decals if you are above, but I found a good description here.

Another thing that happened this week is that the AIS1 is reprogrammed with new MMSI number2 so that we can be followed by our loved ones on sites such as MarineTraffic.

Since the boat was Finnish registered, we could not take over the old Finnish MMSI number, so the AIS unit (Garmin AIS 600) had to go to Garmin for a factory reset. It is not possible to change the MMSI number yourself.

Tomorrow there will be sailing…

1) AIS is the system that ensures that ships' movements can be presented on digital charts and that ships can receive alarms when there is a risk of collision.

2) MMSI is the identity, a nine-digit number, that a vessel has in the AIS system
